CARE & MAINTENANCE

Preserve the artistry and craftsmanship of your luxury furniture with the following detailed care guidelines, specific to each material.

To ensure your luxury furniture retains its elegance for years to come, proper care is essential. Avoid using feather dusters, as they tend to scatter dust into the air and from one piece to another. Additionally, broken quills may have sharp edges that can scratch delicate finishes. Over time, infrequent dusting allows abrasive particles to settle, gradually dulling the surface. Dust can also collect in grooves and details, forming a stubborn gray buildup that's difficult to remove.

Always use a soft, lint-free cotton or microfiber cloth that is clean and washable. Avoid cloths with loose threads or fraying edges, as they can damage the surface.

Dry dusting is not recommended. It offers little actual cleaning and may scratch or dull the finish. Instead, slightly dampen the cloth with a few drops of water—just enough to help the dust adhere. The cloth should never be wet enough to leave moisture behind. If water marks appear on the surface, the cloth is too damp.

Avoid using spray polishes or dusting aids, as most contain water, silicones, or oil-based emulsifiers that may degrade the finish over time.

When dusting, use light, oval motions following the direction of the grain. Regularly fold or turn the cloth to prevent transferring dust from one area to another.

1. Caring for Brass Furniture

Brass pieces ordered with QOQET’S proprietary Crystal Coating are protected against tarnishing and require only regular dusting to maintain their appearance. However, if your piece was ordered without this coating and the brass has developed a patina beyond your preference, it can be restored by polishing with a brass cleaner and polish.

Please note that patina formation is a natural characteristic of raw brass, influenced by environmental factors such as humidity and temperature. Polishing removes this surface oxidation, revealing the original gleam of the brass beneath. We recommend using Brite Boy, a highly effective cleaning and polishing solution.

Important Care Tips:

To preserve the beauty and integrity of your brass furniture, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or placement near windows with strong UV rays. Likewise, keep pieces away from air conditioning vents, as this may lead to shrinkage, discoloration, or permanent damage to the finish.

2. Selective Polishing of Brass Furniture

In some cases, you may be able to refresh the look of a brass piece by polishing only specific areas. However, we strongly recommend polishing entire sections—such as the full top surface, a complete drawer front, or one entire side—to ensure a uniform appearance.

As brass tarnishes, it develops a patina and its color shifts over time. Polishing only a small portion of a tarnished area, such as a corner of a drawer front, will reveal the original polished brass underneath, which may contrast sharply with the rest of the surface. To maintain visual harmony, always polish full sections rather than isolated spots.

Important Note:

Before beginning, carefully inspect your piece and consider the aesthetic effect of polishing. Removing the patina will alter the color of the treated area, and may result in a noticeable contrast. If an even finish is desired, you may wish to polish the entire piece. Should the difference in tone be too stark after partial polishing, we recommend continuing with full-surface polishing to restore a consistent, refined look.

3. Full Polishing of Brass Furniture

If your brass furniture has developed a level of tarnish beyond your preference, a full-surface polish may be required to restore its original luster. While the process can be time-intensive, the results are rewarding with the right approach and care.

- Step 1: Gather Your Materials We recommend using Brite Boy, a high-quality brass cleaner available at premium hardware stores or online. You will also need several soft cotton rags or microfiber cloths.

- Step 2: Begin Polishing by Sections Apply the Brite Boy polish directly onto your cloth—never onto the furniture surface. Using gentle, even circular motions, work the polish over a designated section, such as the top, then the sides, followed by the front. Tackling the piece in sections helps achieve a more even and refined result.

- Step 3: Final Touches and Residue Removal Once the entire surface has been polished and the brass's original sheen restored, handle with care. We recommend wearing cotton or polyethylene gloves (not natural rubber) for final wiping to avoid fingerprints. To remove any remaining residue or polish traces, gently wipe the surface with denatured alcohol. If unavailable, acetone may be used as an alternative. Ensure the cloth is clean and non-abrasive for this final step. Important Note: Polishing brass removes a thin layer of the patina, and without protection, the surface may quickly begin to tarnish again. Unless you have access to professional sealing techniques, we recommend applying a high-quality carnauba car wax immediately after polishing to offer temporary protection and prolong the finish. Since various finishes require different treatments, if you're unsure of your piece’s topcoat or need tailored advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us

4. Caring for Goatskin Surfaces (Matte Topcoat)

To preserve the refined beauty of goatskin with a matte finish, always use a clean, soft cloth made from lint-free cotton or high-quality microfiber. Avoid cloths with frayed edges or loose threads, as these can scratch the surface. Dry dusting is not recommended, as it can be abrasive and ineffective. Instead, lightly moisten your cloth by sprinkling a few drops of water onto it—just enough to attract dust without wetting the surface. The cloth should feel barely damp; if any moisture remains visible on the surface after wiping, the cloth is too wet. Avoid using commercial dusting sprays, polishes, or products containing oils, silicones, or emulsifiers. These can leave residues that damage the matte finish over time. Use gentle, circular motions when wiping, and frequently refold the cloth to avoid redistributing dust across the surface.

Important Care Note:
Do not expose goatskin furniture to prolonged direct sunlight, high UV exposure near windows, or placement near air conditioning vents. These conditions can lead to shrinkage, fading, discoloration, or permanent damage to the surface finish.

5. Caring for Goatskin Surfaces (Hand-Polished High-Gloss Finish)

To maintain the lustrous beauty of goatskin items with a hand-polished high-gloss finish, always use a clean, soft cloth made from lint-free cotton or premium microfiber. Avoid using cloths with frayed edges or loose threads, as they may cause fine scratches. Dry dusting is not recommended, as it can be abrasive and ineffective in lifting dust. Instead, lightly moisten your cloth by adding a few drops of water—just enough to help the dust adhere to the fabric. The cloth should be damp, not wet. If any moisture is left behind on the surface, your cloth is too saturated. Avoid using spray polishes, commercial dusting aids, or any products containing silicones, oils, or emulsifiers, as these can compromise the clarity and depth of the high-gloss finish. Wipe gently in smooth, oval motions, and turn or refold the cloth frequently to prevent transferring dust from one area to another.

Important Care Note:
To protect the integrity of the goatskin finish, avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight or near windows with prolonged UV exposure. Similarly, do not position pieces near air conditioning vents, as extreme airflow may cause shrinkage, discoloration, or irreversible damage to the surface.

6. Caring for Stainless Steel Furniture

To maintain the pristine appearance of your stainless steel furniture, regular light cleaning is recommended. For everyday smudges such as fingerprints or minor stains, use a mild glass cleaner applied with a clean microfiber cloth. Wipe gently in even, circular motions to avoid streaks and maintain a smooth finish. For a more thorough cleaning and to restore the natural luster of the steel, we recommend using Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish. This specialized formula effectively removes buildup, revives the color, and leaves behind a subtle protective layer.

Important Care Note:
To preserve the surface integrity of your stainless steel pieces, avoid placing them in direct sunlight or near windows with continuous UV exposure. Likewise, do not position them near air conditioning vents, as fluctuating temperatures and airflow can cause warping, discoloration, or permanent damage to the finish.

7. Caring for Shagreen Furniture

Shagreen requires minimal maintenance beyond regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth. While it is a highly durable and resilient material, it is also naturally sensitive and must be treated with care—especially when it comes to moisture. Do not use water, damp cloths, or any household cleaning products such as Pledge, Windex, or similar solutions, as these can damage the surface and diminish its natural beauty. Over time, slight separations between shagreen panels may appear. This is a normal result of environmental changes such as humidity, temperature shifts, and seasonal variations. These subtle changes are part of the character of shagreen, which continues to develop a graceful patina as it ages.

Important Care Note:
To preserve the integrity of the surface, avoid placing shagreen furniture in direct sunlight or near windows with prolonged UV exposure. Likewise, refrain from positioning pieces near air conditioning vents, as this may lead to drying, shrinkage, discoloration, or irreversible surface damage.

8. Caring for Raffia Furniture

QOQET’S raffia pieces are thoughtfully sealed with a light lacquer finish to protect against fingerprints and surface buildup. To maintain their natural beauty, regular gentle dusting is essential. Use a soft, lint-free cotton or microfiber cloth—never a rag with loose threads or frayed edges. Dry dusting is not recommended, as it can be abrasive and may dull the finish over time. Instead, lightly moisten the cloth with a few drops of water—just enough to capture dust without wetting the surface. If moisture is visible after wiping, the cloth is too damp. Avoid all spray polishes and commercial dusting products, especially those containing oils, emulsifiers, or silicones. These can stain raffia and cause uneven discoloration. Wipe the surface gently using smooth, circular motions, and fold the cloth regularly to prevent redistributing dust across the piece.

Important Care Note:
To preserve the integrity of the raffia and its finish, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or areas with continuous UV exposure. Also, do not place raffia furniture near heating or air conditioning vents, as fluctuations in temperature and airflow may lead to warping, shrinkage, or irreversible damage.

9. Caring for Ice-Resin and Lucite Furniture

To preserve the clarity and structure of your ice-cracked resin or Lucite furniture, it is essential to protect it from environmental extremes. Avoid placing these pieces in direct sunlight, near heating elements, air conditioning vents, or in areas subject to drastic temperature changes. Excessive heat or cold may cause the resin to expand, contract, bend, or warp over time. Dry dusting is not recommended, as it can be abrasive and gradually dull the finish. Instead, lightly moisten a soft, lint-free cotton or microfiber cloth with a few drops of water—just enough to allow dust to adhere to the surface without leaving moisture behind. If water marks appear after wiping, the cloth is too damp.

Important Care Note:
To maintain the integrity and visual appeal of your piece, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or windows with strong UV rays. Also steer clear of positioning your furniture near HVAC vents, as the combination of airflow and temperature shifts can lead to shrinkage, discoloration, or irreversible damage to the resin’s finish.
